Account Management
This page covers account deletion, tier downgrades, and data retention policies for Control Zero for AI Governance.
Account Deletion
Account deletion is a permanent, irreversible operation. It follows a two-step verification process to prevent accidental data loss.
Deletion Process
- Request deletion. Navigate to Settings > Account > Delete Account. Enter your account email to confirm.
- Confirm via email. A confirmation email is sent to the account owner. Click the confirmation link within 24 hours to finalize deletion. If the link expires, repeat step 1.
What Gets Deleted
- All projects and their policies
- All API keys
- All audit log data (after the retention grace period)
- All notification channel configurations
- Organization membership and RBAC assignments (Teams tier)
Post-Deletion Data Retention
After account deletion is confirmed, audit log data is retained for a grace period based on the tier at the time of deletion:
| Tier | Post-deletion audit retention |
|---|---|
| Free | 7 days |
| Solo | 30 days |
| Teams | 90 days |
After the grace period, all remaining data is permanently purged.
Tier Downgrade
When you downgrade from a higher tier to a lower one, the change takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle. During the transition:
Grace Period
After a downgrade takes effect, you have a 30-day read-only grace period for features and data that exceed your new tier limits. During this period:
- You can view and export data that would otherwise be inaccessible on the lower tier.
- You cannot create new resources that exceed the lower tier limits (e.g., new projects beyond the Free tier limit of 1).
- Existing policies, API keys, and configurations remain accessible in read-only mode.
Data Retention After Downgrade
After the 30-day grace period, data that exceeds the new tier limits is retained for an additional 90 days before deletion:
- Projects: If you downgrade to Free and have more than 1 project, excess projects are archived. You must select which project to keep before the 90-day window closes.
- Policies: If you downgrade to Free and have more than 3 policies per project, excess policies are deactivated. They can be reactivated by upgrading.
- Audit logs: Retention adjusts to the new tier limit. Logs older than the new retention window are purged after the 90-day grace.
- Teams features: Browser extension, coding hooks, Scout, hosted MCP server, RBAC, SSO/SAML, fleet management, and compliance reports become unavailable after the grace period.
After the 90-day retention window, archived data is permanently deleted.
Data Retention by Tier
Active accounts retain audit log data according to their current tier:
| Tier | Audit log retention |
|---|---|
| Free | 7 days |
| Solo | 90 days |
| Teams | 365 days |
Audit logs older than the retention period are purged automatically. Purged logs cannot be recovered.
On Solo and Teams tiers, you can export audit logs (CSV or JSON) before they are purged. See the API Reference for the export endpoint.
